A Refreshing Sweet Treat - Best Acai Bowls on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii
Martha Whitaker
I have lived on Oahu, Hawaii for the past seven years, and the North Shore is my favorite part of the island because they have the best acai bowls. Nothing is better than stepping off the beach for a refreshing acai bowl before hopping back into the ocean. There are many places to get acai on the North Shore, and the options can feel overwhelming. Check out my favorite acai bowl spots to get rejuvenated and start the day off with a burst of flavor!
Banzai Bowls Haleiwa - More Bang for Your Buck
I like to stop here to get acai because the workers load me up with toppings and huge portion sizes for a relatively cheap price ($10.25). My go-to order is a Maui Sunrise – it has a rich creamy acai base and an extra layer of crunchy granola in the middle. The vibrant variety of fruit toppings makes the bowl look like a rainbow. The first bite is always the perfect taste of sweet and crunchy.
Haleʻiwa Bowls - Organic, Local and Vegan Friendly
This is the best place to get organic acai and smoothie bowls. It’s more expensive ($13), but they have botanical toppings that make it worth the price. I didn’t realize I needed local bee pollen on my acai until I tried it here. It has a sweet but earthy taste, and it’s a healthy superfood. Seating is limited, so after I order, I grab my towel and walk over to a nearby beach. It’s the perfect beach snack while I watch people surf.
The Sunrise Shack - A Surfer’s Paradise
The quaint, bright yellow hut screams Hawaii– drawing in tourists and locals alike. It’s located across from the famous Sunset Beach, which makes it the perfect spot to end a Hawaiian day. They are known for their acai bowls and organic bullet coffee. It’s inexpensive for Hawaii ($10.95) and they have the lowest-priced add-ons ($0.75) of all the acai places. There’s outdoor seating where you can share your treat with a local chicken or two.
Hawaii is known for many things— surf, sand, rainbows— but my favorite is acai. With the warm sun on my face and the half-melted acai bowl in hand, I feel energized and ready to hit the waves and explore the small but bustling North Shore.
